Woman in Red

This was originally put together for Threadless contest for Marvel Characters. I chose Black Widow (pretty obvious). While it didn’t win anything, I removed everything that made it the Marvel character. And viola!

Deliberately left slightly sketchy, this piece was done entirely digitally with a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Enjoy!

Swordswoman at Dusk

A fun, cartoonish image of a swordswoman after a battle. Great fun playing with the colours on this one. The line work was all done traditionally with a tiny bit of digital cleanup. All the colour was quickly put in place in Photoshop. Wile a little rough in places, I think this one turned out pretty good. She might show up in some later works…

It was really annoying typing out this article. Autocorrect kept trying to change “swordswoman” to “swordsman”!

Enjoy!

Venger

A rare piece of frank from yours truly.

This bad boy is Venger, from the cult 80s cartoon classic Dungeons and Dragons. I was never allowed to play as a kid, but I remember the cartoon being fun, and thinking that Venger, the main bad guy, was pretty cool looking.

Lines drawn traditionally with colour done digitally in Photoshop.

Enjoy!

Commissions!

So, in an effort to give me some more drawing practice and earn a little extra cash, I’ve decided to open up some commission slots!

I’ve attached some examples of what I’m after for now. They fall under 4 main categories: Social Media Avatars, Black and White Sketches, Black and White with one Extra Colour, Digital Painting, and Robots. I have Robots as separate category, as they can get extra finicky and I think that deserves a special price point. All hand drawn pieces will be 8 x 10. Social Media Avatars should have a pretty tight turnaround and will be done fairly loosely – they are generally only seen small and will not have a lot of detail in them. Digital Paintings will take the longest. Notice all the example are waist up or portraits? That’s all I am doing for now.

Please note the prices DO NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING FOR PHYSICAL PIECES. I will add to the price once we’ve agreed to subject matter and I know where to send the piece.

I also reserve the right to refuse service if I deem the requested subject matter offensive. Sexy pinups are okay, but not nudity. I will also not tolerate anything demeaning to woman or minorities, or anything overly violent or crude.

With the exception of Social Media Avatars, digital flies with be watermarked with my info (name and website).

Paypal only for now. Email me by clicking on this link for more information.

Serious inquiries only please.

Anime

This past summer, I took part in Winnipeg’s annual Anime convention Ai-Kon. I manage to snag a table by winning 2nd place in their mascot contest. While things didn’t quite work out as expected, I did manage to put together some pretty great pieces. And they are all ORIGINAL DESIGNS. Though many of them play off existing manga/anime tropes and character design.

Image of the Month 2011 to 2015

While going thru some old images on my computer’s hard-drive, I found a bunch of images I did for a drawing challenge I did for myself. I tried to do one good personal image a month for as long as I could. I managed it more or less for four years. These should be most of them. They have all been posted on the blog at one time or another. All were done using various programs (a few of them were traditional media work as well).

My Business Card Design

This summer, I found myself in desperate need of new business cards.

I wanted something a little different, and to showcase my illustration skills. I went with Moo.com as they offered some different sizes and printing options that I thought would fit the bill.

I went with a square size to better show of a sample illustration on one side, and would accommodate my growing list of social media platforms. With Moo.com’s “Printfinity” option I could do a different illustration for the back of each card. Was a cool branding exercise. Even though it did generate a LOT of files! There are 43 different backs. Each one needed to be specially cropped and sized to fit the square frame.

Sketches

Doodles, doodles, and more doodles. A whole collection of doodles and sketches I have done over the past year. Some of these were just random doodles with no real purpose, others were exercises or warm ups for other drawings, and others I might have some future plans for. Very nearly all were pencil sketches first and were inked later with a brush pen. Mostly a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and a few other various disposables from Kurateke and Tombow. Enjoy!

One Week to Go!

Sneak Peek

Depending on when everyone gets to read this, it is a little less than one week before Ai-Kon 2017 (the local Winnipeg Anime Convention) will be held and where I will be tabling for the first time! Woo-hoooooo! Exciting stuff!

I’ll be located here if anyone can make it out.

More information about the con itself can be found here.

Fingers crossed!

Long Time No See!

Time to dust off the this old blog and get back to some basics!

This past little while I’ve been busy with work, and chasing after two little ones. While I have still been pretty busy generating new content and expanding as an artist, I’ve had very little time to write up any articles and postings. I think it is high time to change that.

Over this past winter, I found out the local Anime convention Ai-Kon was holding what looks like an annual contest for the mascot. I had an idea for the contest and thought I would give it a try. Turned out the contest was ending soon, so I had very little time to actually put something together. A couple of very late nights and viola!

And it worked out better than the last time I tried my hand at this! I was the first runner up, thereby giving me a free half table for the convention this July.

That gives me a few months to put some things together. While I have always admired the work coming out of Japan, I am hardly an Anime and Manga enthusiast. I grew up watching Astroboy as a kid, and I remember really liking Battle of the Planets when I was really little. But I’ve only ever seen a handful of Robotech episodes (though I have read all of the novelizations) and I’ve only watched the North American version of Nausicaa of the Winds, so I have quite a lot of catching up to do.

My goal for the con is to get a least 10 original drawings as prints of various sizes (sorry, no fanart –I’m trying to steer clear from other people’s IP if I can) and try and see if I can pick up some commissions.

I will also be posting some teasers and previews on my Twitter and Instagram feeds so stay tuned!
