Fall Birch

We needed something to go over the couch in our livingroom. And I had been toying with the idea of some sort of birch tree painting for a while now. Finally decided to do something about it. All digital from start to finish. Enjoy!

I have always loved the artwork of fantasy artist Brian Froud. This was my meager attempt to ape his style somewhat. It also gave me the opportunity to use a solid grey as a base colour and build all the other tones in strict black and white. Was fun drawing all the different types of faces. Enjoy!

As the noon day of Centauris approached, Jenna heard a rock fall down the nearby escarpment. Wary of slave hunters, she prepared herself for a possible ambush. There was no way she was going back to the slave markets.
This was a fun personal project where I got to try out some ideas on digital painting. Turned out pretty good. Enjoy!

Zor-len daintily steped over the wreckage. There was no way she was going to ger her uniform soiled. Not on her salary. Besides, these jerks she blasted from the sky weren’t worth it. She wasn’t even sure why she was hired for this assignment.
“Time to put on a smile and see if these losers fall for it,” she said to herself right before she greated her captives. She needed to find out what all the fuss was about. The marks always fell for a pretty smile.
Who doesn’t love a good pulpy-style sci-fi drama? This personal project game me the oppurtunity to try some digital painting techniques while using a very limited (and somewhat flat) colour scheme. Started out as a quick pencil sketch and totally redone in Photoshop. Enjoy!

So every month for the year, I’ll be posting a quick description of a colour, along with a little bit of colour theory to help out in colour selection. This is my way of making sure I get back in the habit of doing a major post to my blog once a month! So this month’s colour, Blue, just happens to be my favourite. And since this month is my birthday, I thought this would be a good place to start.

During the summer of 2018, there was a hashtag on Instagram called #drawthisinyourownstyle and I wanted to participate. This was NOT my original design, just my interpretation of someone else’s work. In fact, this isn’t even the image I originally posted. I felt the symmetry need some work. This is the final result. About 90% of the work was done on my iPad. Just a basic pencil rough by hand and a bit of Photoshop cleanup afterwards makes up the other 10%. You can see what I had originally posted to Instagram here.
Enjoy.

These are from a series of T-Shirt graphics I developed for various lakes and other places of interest in the Whiteshell Provincial Park located in the province of Manitoba, Canada. A fun (if very long) project where I got to try out a bunch of things I rarely get to do in my day job. Was also fun to be my own boss for a while.
Enjoy.

A dump of various logos and word marks I’ve done over the past few years.
Enjoy!

An experimental type design. I wanted to see if I could come up with something a little different with the letter “Q” while still keeping it very formal. Out of serval iterations not shown, this one was my favourite. Now if I could just get the CBC to look at it…
Enjoy!

A very goofy and silly experiment that I thought was worth sharing here. Experimenting with colour.
Enjoy!
