Abstracts

I mostly do representational artwork. But my day job as a graphic designer often has be doing lots of patterns, so it is only natural that I at least do a FEW more abstract works. I like to think I keep them fairly approachable. These are a few of my favourites. Prints can be found here.

The Oxfordians

A series of personal drawings I put together featuring cartoon children. I wanted to come up with a process of quickly turning around artwork that would start out as a traditional pencil sketch and then could be quickly finished off digitally. Enjoy!

The Owl and the Pussycat

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
“O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!”

When I started this one, nmy son had discovered a big book of poems on his bookself and was having me read it to him every night.

I thought some of the poems were a bit too old for him, and some of them somewhat… dated (the book was from my wife when she was a little girl) but he loved them all the same. This was a favourite.

Started off as a traditional pencil sketch and the colour finished off digitally. Enjoy!

Big Barda

This is one of the few fan art pieces I have in my protfolio right now. I have… philisophical problems with posting such stuff online, so I rarely do it. I thought this one turend out rather well. I always like the fun familiy moments between Barda and Scott.

I was trying to put my own spin on it while keeping pretty close to the Kirby original. Enjoy!
