Graphic Design and Illustration.

Just about finished!

Looks like my first book design in a long, long time is just about finished! And check out the website I put together to help promote the book.

It’s a book about the author, a guy named Carl, who, after retiring from his job as a banker, went on a walking tour of Hadrian’s Wall, one of the largest remnants of the Roman Empire. Not too shabby.

The blogs I follow

I’m not going to post these in a sidebar since I’d rather keep the site pretty clean, but in case anyone is ever interested, this is what peaks my interests these days…

Dangerous things are afoot…

Had a very interesting meeting meeting today regarding the state-of-the-art in web design when it comes to the Anglican Church in Winnipeg. Will have to wait and see how it all turns out.

I’m leaving it there for now to appease my sense of melodrama.

99Designs and their ilk

I imagine this is probably a fairly controversial subject. I’d imagine the GDC (Graphic Designers of Canada) probably have pretty harsh criticisms regarding “design by contest” and other crowdsourcing strategies for design and communication, but I think it may very well be the future. At least for a lot of the smaller design work (ie non-corporate) out there in the world. So hopefully by the end of the month, or maybe sometime mid-October depending on how busy I get, I’m going to take the plunge and give it a try. If nothing else, I’ll be able to fill out my portfolio a bit with some wider ranging work. Having an expansive portfolio is a problem when you work for a one-trick-pony like I do.

Good thing I’ve never been a GDC member! 😛

Hello World!

My first post.

I’m starting this blog mainly to set up an easy to update portfolio and possibly generate a bit of freelance work for myself. It also seemed like a fun project to take on. See what all this blogging stuff is all about and see how this whole WordPress thing works.
