South Winnipeg Kindershule

A daycare with German language and culture as a major part of their curriculum. I was asked by my then German born Art Director to come up with a logo for them. The company I worked for had already designed the logo for the building they were going to be in and the day care really liked that particular logo. So all I did was create a “kid” version of that logo. The type used was hand drawn using a blunt pencil crayon on very rough paper using my opposite hand. They must really like that logo since they are still using it as is twenty-four years later!

St Michael and All Angels

When St Michael and All Angels, a local Anglican parish, decided  to create some forms so parish members could tithe thru electronic money transfers instead of weekly cheques, I was asked to rebuild the graphic digitally. The graphic had been photocopied many, many times throughout the decades and was badly chewed up. I designed them a new one. Since they are a church where tradition is very important, I didn’t deviate too much from what they already had (i.e. a drawing of their church). I just redrew the image using some aging techniques and used some distressed fonts to create the look of ancient timelessness.

SD Logo

This logo was created for some self promotional material. The logo was created by playing around with interlocking shapes to form the “s” and “d” letters. The end result was a pleasing balance of thick and thin shapes that looked original and contemporary. The 3D bevel effect was added in Photoshop.

Rust

I first drew the design of the armour when I was in high school. Years later, I redrew the design on the computer using Macromedia Freehand and then Adobe Photoshop for all the textures. This drawing took almost eight years to complete from conception to final drawing!

Enjoy!

Pizza Party Photoshop Action

Years ago, I stumbled across a Photoshop action that could make type look like it was made of pizza slices. Being too cheap to buy it, I set out to make one of my own. The results of my labour as seen in the image above. Even the placement of the pepperoni is handled automatically by the action.

The other Photoshop action I mentioned earlier has since been released as freeware, but I prefer mine.

EDIT: This post actually gets quite a few hits. Since there appears to be some sort of demand for this action, I’ve released it over at my DeviantArt account. Follow the link there.

Mermaid

Not too long ago, I had to do a series of lottery ticket designs based on fantasy/mythological creatures. They turned out okay, but there were so many time restrictions, odd marketing demands to follow, not to mention a few technical restrictions, that I felt I could do better. So I set about to re-create one of the images as if I were the boss (and didn’t have to worry so much about reproduction restrictions.)
